This blog article does an excellent job of backing up my assertions: that today’s publishing is not about the publishers promoting your book – it’s about people like me (the author), getting interest from people like you (who are reading this book) who then rush out and tell your friends about this really cool product or service (in this case a book) to everyone you know.
Maybe publishing is indeed too important a task to be left to the publishers, and like independent music distribution, the artists and the authors are the ones who should be promoting their own work – after all, these creative products are their babies, and a lot of effort and love has been poured into their production. After all, if I can’t be passionate about my own book, how can I expect a publisher to be enthusiastic?
